MAGNAGOTHICA: MALEGHAST
A downloadable game
DIE! DIE! DIE!
DEATH IS BROKEN in Anzenmezzeron, the great necropolis of a billion souls, living and (mostly) dead. You are a necromancer, partaker of the Black Sacrament and master of the devouring dead. Fresh from the grave, you set your sights on the terrible treasure at the center of the city: the End of Death. Will you find it within your grasp, or will you lose yourself in the swirling hellscape of the city?
Magnagothica: Maleghast is a two to four player skirmish war-game designed for virtual tabletop by Tom Bloom (author of Lancer RPG and others).
Inspired by extreme metal music, gothic horror, and comics, this book also functions as a convenient art book and listening guide. Packed with pages of unholy abominations, you will love gazing into the horrifying abyss. Included in this purchase is the full color .pdf plus an asset pack of the over 30 different units in the game for your use.
Take the role of a master necromancer and dive into unconscionable violence. Choose one of six great houses and raise the dead! Praise the devils! Assemble your Black Mass of ghouls, deformed servants, and freaks and partake in tactical necromancer action.
You’ll come back, even if you are torn apart.
They always do.

Hello, will there ever be a physical version?
Highly unlikely. I don't believe there are any current plans to print.
it's been awhile but can you please release this in single-page format and not just spreads format? we can't print this correctly when its in Spreads... it also does not go read well with tablets.
Yes please! I'd do it myself, but I cant just release someone else's content. I haven't bothered doing it just for myself because it'd be a huge pain. Hopefully if we just keep asking, Tom will eventually bless us with more accessible filth.
Hi Tom, I'm Marcus Mauro, a translator at the Brazilian indie publisher Odyssey Publicações. I'm very interested in your Maleghast material. I would like to know if we can discuss a possible commercial partnership to translate and publish your skirmish game in Brazil!
i got a lot of friends who would love to play this game but cant deal with the language barrier... pls publish this in ptbr ;u;
Hey Tom I don't know if you will see this but is anyone working on a digital version of Magnagothica? My buddies and I were thinking of making it in Unity. Mainly to make it more accessible to people who dont know roll 20 or tabletop sim.
It costs 6.66…..wait a minute….something about that number….
They should put together a zip/rar with the content to print everything, the character cards, the pieces with their measurements, targets, the map, pieces of the board. It would be nice. Now I'm going to put it together by hand, but it would be nice if it came with everything to play physically.
Ill try print all on fisic to try the game in my house with sone friends, will do some reaserch, and then show some.
Love the concept, art and the game!
Any chance we can get this in single-page version? Spreads look good on a laptop but really suck for printing and viewing on tablets/phones.
I also would appreciate this quite a bit
Which virtual tabletop do you guys usually use to play Magnagothica in, Tom, folks?
the main ones are Roll20 and Eule’s TTS mod
Thanks a lot for the reply and tips, bro.
hi, greetings from Argentina, im totally inspired for the game, im doing 3D models to play with, tellme if you wanna see them!! im on Reddit too. congrats for your awesome art and work!! See ya!
just wanted to mention, update 3 changed how vit/vuln work, but didnt change the text in the glossary. rule now correctly states they are removed after taking damage, glossary still says theyre removed after adjusting the damage
Thanks, I will fix this in a quick update in the next week or two
bought this, where do i actually find the game rules and all the stuff?
should be in the download page
For the lycans, is their splash damage reliant on hitting the enemy? if i attack and miss does the splash still trigger?
No you have to hit bloody slashes to get the aoe
Really hoped this was a Tarp😭
are there any talks of making a physical edition of this, i would very much like to have it on a bookshelf
This game looks incredible, id LOVE it could be single page instead of of Spreads, for both printing and reading on tablets. Also the Assets are *mostly* the sort of Standee art from the book, but some are close ups on faces, even though Standee art is in the book. It seems like the Assets should be like something easier to print out or add as virtual assets to TTS or something else
This is just perfect. Leading an army with necromech while Babymetal is playing? 10 out of 10.
Second this! The 2-up spread format is garbage for printing. I intend to play this as a physical tabletop game, so I need a printed version.
Honestly, it wasn’t the end of the world. I just used ilovepdf.com to crop the pages out then stitch them back together with Apple Automator. Lost some resolution and I probably didn’t get the optimal print quality, but it worked.
Is this set in the same World as CAIN?
Badass arts as always by the way, Tom.
Hallo! I bought the book a while back and printed it for myself because I wanted it in physical version. Cost me a pretty penny but it was good work! I'm understanding my mistake now that an update has come out, but alas, can't do much about it.
I'm going to test the game tomorrow, but I have a few suggestions already, mainly to support people who want to play the game in a physical format. It's nothing much, but it would help greatly:
These are the two main things I'd suggest. I know the game was meant to be played online, but some people just can't, like me, and still want to try it, so I spent a while doing the aforementioned things for myself (well, only the standees, I didn't manage to make the unit pages more printer friendly). I know I'm nobody to suggest these things, it's more work after all, but still, it'd be amazing if you could do that.
Otherwise, for those interested, I have a PDF with the printable standees for Carcass and the Igorri units. 6 Thralls each + all the other units within the limits put by the rules + 6 wall icons + 8 Elevated Terrain Icons + 4 Hazard Icons + a bunch of corpse markers.
You've created something amazing here and I can't wait to try it!
Heya, if we wanted to bring attention to some typos, inconsistencies, and such where should we post about'em? I'll post'em here for now, but will post them where I should when am told. Hopefully it helps either way!
Impressive feedback, KUDOS! I hope the author it's interested into polish the game more and more.
Me, waiting for community copies to be a thing :(.
Hey, it's free for the next few days.
Am I the only one that thinks that the “Exorcist” looks like Father Anderson from Hellsing
So I'm not the only one!
I would commit ungodly acts for a physical version of your games. They're the most inspired and fun games I've seen in ages, and I just need more of their settings and lore!
Where can I find home brew?
There are two on Itch.io, just search up maleghast and you'll find it. Theres also a homebrew channel in the Lancer discord.
Is the Bonus Trait "Rapid Move" for the Chirurgeon supposed to trigger on the start of, the end of, or the start of end of your turn? The last option is what the text says but I wasn't sure if it's a typo.
I second this! I would love to be able to help with lore if the developers are at all interested, especially the Abhorrers and the Igorri. I would love to for the sake of love for the setting itself. I really enjoy this game setting and the lore that is there. It would be amazing to help out in anyway!
I’m not an artist but I have lots of personal creative writing experience, and can send in a sample if desired. I also have some video game design experience on a college level.
It's just called making a headcanon. Go wild, make whatever stories you want in this setting, but don't expect the creators to make them canon. That doesn't happen for Warhammer or Trench Crusade either, fans just make headcanons that you incorporate into your personal headcanon.
i still wish there was a physical version of this and maybe in the future campaign stuff
I would buy that
I DID BUY THAT HA-HA!!!!
how?
Click on the viy tab, its a pdf. It also is a computer game you play against other people. If you get a 3d printer you could turn it into a irl Table Top Wargame
oh, I wanted an actual physical book. dang
Page 12, on the "Units" part there is a typo in the point 9. Upgrades.
Hope it helps, love your work.
Page 19, Splash and line effect, Paragraph 2, Penultimate line, "on" appears twice.
Wish there was a physical copy! Just for the art alone!
The unit asset files don't seem to include necromancers (they have profile pics, but nothing to put on the table). Am I missing something, or are we supposed to draw our own?
Hey, I think I found a typo? In the "Movement" section of page 10. it says "a unt may never act in the middle of a move".
Do you reckon we'll ever get miniatures for this game? I would love to play in person 40K style, especially with such cool creatures and characters!
Me, waiting for community copies to be a thing. OwO?
Hi!
What abilities can I choose in heresy mode? and where are they used? For the fighters of another great house I have chosen, or for the fighters of my own faction?
Could you clarify something for me?:
Some abilities list an exhaustive range (range 1-2 for example), but others only say a specific number (such as range 4). Does this mean that the latter can only hit a unit exactly at four spaces away, or is it intended to be able to hit anything in range 1-4?
"Abilities have a minimum range of 1 by default, but may have a higher minimum range (range 2-4, for example, meaning adjacent characters or spaces cannot be targeted)" - p16.
So a ability with range 4 has a minimum range of 1 and thus can affect anything within 4, not just units that are exactly four spaces away. Abilities with a specified range (like 2-3) are limited to that range.
There's at least one case where there's a specified range of 1-X (the Homonculus' flesh whip is range 1-2, there may be others that I missed), but range 1-2 should be functionally the same as range 2. I assume this is just a formatting inconsistency.
I was hoping that was the case, but wanted to put it out into the world to make sure I wasn’t just ruling in my own favor.
I absolutely love your work. The art, the mechanics, the flava. It’s all so brilliant. Thank you for being awesome!
