Absolutely love the additions to Cain and Maleghast, as always, top-tier stuff Tom! :3
Does this mean Games for Freaks will be only stuff published through CHASM?
No ICON or LANCER stuff on the horizon in the sludge bucket?
Likely not, since this is Toms indie publishing platform. Not really involved in Massif Press.
He also had an AMA where I think he mentioned that content he publishs with Miguel will be halted for now because he wants Miguels involvement in those projects but due to Miguel's job, it's very difficult as of now. So their current solution is to contract other people to produce small adventure modules for Lancer.
I saw a post from him that's I thought said games for freaks would have content for all the games he makes so I ha shopped for Lancer stuff to be there.
I understand there is a separation between CHASM and massif hence why I mentioned in my question will it only be stuff from CHASM.
Was just checking if it's a case of first issue being on Halloween meant he focused on the spooky occult games.
what
Tribal cannibals is a stereotype thats considered racist cause it falls into the mind set of other cultures being lesser. It's your world to do with as you please, but just kinda explaining where that person was coming from in case it didn't come across clearly.
Edit: Book doesn't mention cannibals, but the comment I replied to said it before it was deleted. Also lets be honest... most of these factions do things to corpses that better not be left to imagination.
Want to be clear i'm not for changing it and I think its fine. Raised my eye brow to it at first, but I might not have without reading that comment first.
on a side note, picked it up and i'm in love with the stiltwalker art.
Harpy has an ability titled Cannibalize and the art depicts them as having blood dripping from their mouths. Less obvious is Flock has an ability titled Call to Feast, both of these are visible in the preview art for the game without even purchasing it. I am not OP, but this would be what they were referring to.
That's fair. I think my thought was is the harpy technically human or is it an undead thrall / half demon type of deal? Like its semantics really but are any of these actually human besides the necromancers? Not arguing or anything just my thought process behind saying I didn't see cannibals as in specifically the necromancer.
Having read and played most of your work, I wouldn't say it's intentional but an oversight. Arguably, a game in an aesthetic about a genre of music that is largely produced and consumed by and for white people in white countries, it makes sense that every faction's iconic necromancer plays into those tropes and genre fixtures.
Sort of like how most of the character art in Cain are south east asian inspired, since it's playing to a genre of story that's largely created and consumed by south-east asian audiences.
So yeah, having the one decidedly non-white iconic necromancer being someone with dark skin in tribal garb is... not great? Is it racist? ehh... Should it be changed? If you want? Is it sucky that apparently the people talking sense are being downvoted when 99% of your artwork is distinctly anti-racist?
That said, I didn't read anything in the PDF about them being cannibals, so that's weird. Mostly the pic reminds me of the Hindu goddess Kali. Maybe next make an indian-metal style faction? That'd be pretty baller. There's actually a lot of good international metal you could tap into, if you ever wanted to expand the setting.
Harpies have the Cannibalize ability thing, is what I think they were pointing at?
I don't know much about Maleghast either way.
